WHY GFR TRAVEL?

Why Families Choose GFR

Many travel programs offer similar leagues and tournaments.
At GFR, the difference is the development experience.

We focus on long-term player growth — not early team labels.

Players benefit from:

  • Development at the right competitive level
  • Movement between teams when appropriate
  • Evaluations that happen throughout the season — not just at tryouts
  • An environment where learning and confidence come before early pressure
  • Quality fields within the Great Falls-Reston area

Our training environment emphasizes:

  • Decision making
  • Comfort on the ball
  • Confidence and creativity
  • Game understanding

Winning matters — but development comes first.

TRAVEL VPSL/ECNL RL

ECNL Regional League through VPSL

The VPSL was founded in 2015, specifically for clubs with national programming, and became a licensed ECNL Girls Regional League in 2018 and the boys side was added to the ECNL Boys Regional League in 2021. It aims to provide a high level of competition and a professional, player-centric environment designed to enhance player development at all levels. With the goal to be at the forefront of player development, the league provides enhanced flexibility within age groups and playing opportunities for larger player pools while increasing competitiveness across the board. The VPSL features programming for ages U11-U19.

“Aligning VPSL with the ECNL Regional League is a major step toward successfully reaching our goals of providing the best opportunities for our players, improving the game day experience for our families, and further defining the pathway for deserving clubs in ‘the Proving Ground,’” said Mike Cullina, VPSL Board Member.

About the ECNL:

The ECNL is the nation’s leading youth soccer development platform. The ECNL respects and celebrates the unique individuality of every youth soccer player and club, supporting and enabling them to unleash their unfettered passion and fierce tenacity in striving to achieve their potential.

The ECNL mission to Raise the Game is a total commitment to create the best possible environment for players, coaches, referees and administrators, with a determination to constantly question convention and challenge the status quo in youth sports.

The ECNL Commitment:

We will lead, set our eyes on new horizons, and pursue them relentlessly. Born out of the belief in a better way. Continued in the ever-evolving pursuit of excellence.
