  • Income Verification: Provide your most recent federal tax return (current or immediately preceding calendar year) or the two most recent months of paystubs for all working parents/legal guardians in the household. To qualify, the household gross income must be $90,000 or less annually.
  • Assistance Verification: Provide a copy of a Free and Reduced Lunch eligibility letter, a SNAP benefit letter, or a Medicaid eligibility letter.

Step 2: Complete the Fairfax County Youth Scholarship Program Form Please complete the Fairfax County Scholarship Application (available in English or Español). Once completed, save the document and upload it to Playmetrics during the registration process.

Note: Incomplete applications may result in disqualification. Any remaining balance after financial aid is applied must be paid in full and on time for the player to remain eligible to participate in team activities.

Financial Aid Award Process

Once you have submitted your application, uploaded all forms, and paid the initial deposit, your request will be reviewed.

  • Notification: You will receive a communication via Playmetrics stating whether or not you have been granted club fee financial aid.
  • Responsibility: If you do not receive an award, you are responsible for the full remaining balance. If you have concerns, please contact hillary.lane@gfrsoccerclub.org
  • Additional Team Fees:  Travel recipients may be eligible for additional aid to cover team fees. This aid may be requested from the club early in the Fall 2026 season once team budgets are finalized.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What are the award amounts for Travel Financial Aid? Travel financial aid awards are calculated as a percentage of club fees. Depending on the level of need demonstrated, awards typically cover 25%, 50%, or 75% of the club fees.

What is covered by the Club Financial Aid award? The award applies toward club dues, which include:

  • Coach compensation and employee benefits.
  • Two to three training sessions per week (frequency may vary for high school-aged teams).
  • League registration, player passes, and referee fees.
  • Fairfax County field usage, club insurance, and technical staff support.
  • Preseason camp, Goalkeeper training, and equipment.
  • Winter Futsal (specifically for U9–U14 age groups).

What is covered by the Team Fee Financial Aid award? Team Fee aid is separate from Club fee aid and helps cover expenses managed through the team budget in Playmetrics, such as tournament entries, secondary leagues, and coach travel.

What is NOT covered by financial aid? Financial aid does not cover the cost of uniforms or non-Fairfax County resident fees. Families must purchase the required GFR uniform kit directly through our vendor, Sterling Soccer.

Do you consider extenuating circumstances? Yes. If your family has unique financial hardships not fully reflected in your tax returns or paystubs, please list them in the designated "Extenuating Circumstances" section of the application for review.

What if I do not have the specific documentation requested? If you are unable to provide the standard documents (Tax Returns, Paystubs, or Assistance Letters), please use the Extenuating Circumstances section to explain your situation in detail. Please note, however, that the GFR Financial Aid system is primarily need-based; documented proof of income remains the strongest factor in the decision-making process.
